Weekend Photography at Sangli

Last weekend I was in Sangli ( Maharashtra) . I took a stroll at city outskirts for bird watching .
This photo of Purple-Rumped Sunbird , I got unexpectedly. I was trying something in the garden & this fellow landed on flower right in front of me.

Sangli city outskirts has some watery places with full of grass and water plants . This makes perfect habitat for birds .
I was able to see some water birds such as Wooly necked stork , Purple Moorhen , Scaly Breasted Munia and Purple Heron .

Purple Moorhen

The Purple Swamphen Porphyrio porphyrio is a "swamp hen" in the rail family Rallidae. Also known locally as the Pūkeko, African Purple Swamphen, Purple Moorhen, Purple Gallinule or Purple Coot. From its French name talève sultane, it is also known as the Sultana Bird. This chicken-sized bird, with its large feet, bright plumage and red bill and frontal shield is easily-recognisable in its native range. - Source Wikipedia.

  1. Great photos you have here. Photos along with names will be a great help for me to identify if I see these birds in future. What was the camera used? Seems that it was an SLR. If you could guide me in buying a camera for outdoor shooting it would be a great help. Keep up the good work. I will ardently look for new images on this blog.
    Thanks
